Marcoot, Alabama
Marcoot post office was established April 9,
1888 and discontinued March 31, 1909 with a
Thomas Bozeman as the first post master.
Legand says Mr. Bozeman named the post
office Marcoot in honor of a slave who
helped him recover from Civil War Wounds.
An alternate to this was sent to me by John
Marcoot in a book written by Maurice
Marcoot titled Five Years In The Sunny
South.
